Title

Flipping Mitosis

Overview

In this two day lesson students will continue to build knowledge on cell division. Students will create their own Mitosis/Cytokinesis flip book. Students will work independently to create the book with each page having a colored drawing and the back describing the process of the colored picture.

Objectives

Students will be able to...
  • draw the processes the cell takes during mitosis and cytokinesis
  • describe in detail the processes the cell takes during mitosis and cytokinesis

Materials / Preparation Notes

  • paper
  • colored pencils
  • flip book instrustion handout

Instruction

Opening

Last class we spent a great deal of time going over the cell division processes.
  • Can we recall the cell cycle events in order?
  • What are the processes of mitosis?
Today we will do a creative activity to help us understand and remember the process of mitosis.
From here I will briefly explain how the class how they will complete the flip book while I pass out the flip book instructions. Letting them know they can use their notes and textbooks for reference.
I will ask if there are any questions before they start and then set them to complete their work independently.

Activities

The entire period the class will work on this. I will walk around the classroom monitoring work, behavior and answering any questions that the students have.

Closing

I will stop class a couple of minutes before class ends and ask if the students have any questions before they leave. I will inform students that their flipbook is to be completed for homework. They will have two nights to do it and then it is to be turned in for a grade.

Assessment Notes

Any uncompleted work the students will have for homework. The flip book will then be turned in for a project grade.
